OPEN ENROLLMENT: 2016 Winter Programme


The International Education Centre, National University of Singapore (Suzhou) Research Institute (NUSRI) aims to become a platform for professionals and academics from Singapore, China and around the world to share their knowledge and experience. Drawing on the teaching and research expertise of NUS and her affiliated organizations, International Education Centre not only organizes seminars, forums and executive training programs for both professionals and academics, but also immersion programs for Chinese students to NUS, and programs offering Singapore students, as well as, students from around the world an insight into Chinese culture and economic development.


Since NUSRI's establishment in 2010, International Education Centre has successfully organized close to 50 student exchange programs, with over a thousand students benefiting from the programs. Regular projects for foreign students include the summer and winter exchange programs and for Chinese undergraduates, we offer the NUS Summer Internship Program, Pre-Master Program for postgraduate studies, as well as, immersion programs for high school students. The NUS Summer Internship Program, our core program has gained unanimous recognition from participating Chinese universities ever since it started in 2013. Currently, NUSRI is working closely with over 10 famous local universities, including Sichuan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China and Xi’an Jiaotong University, with outstanding students carefully selected by each university to participate in our internship program. 


We are also able to organize student immersion programs to Singapore of at least a week duration, with specific themes and courses chosen in accordance to the requirements and needs of the participating universities.


NUSRI, one of the University-level research institutes of NUS, works closely with many units in NUS to organize educational programmes and events. Below is a listing of some of these units in NUS and their brief introduction. Programmes and courses organized by these units can be considered to be held fully or partially in NUSRI.

1. Institute for Engineering Leadership

In today’s dynamic, technologically-advanced knowledge economy, mere technical competency will not guarantee success within the engineering fields. The next generation of engineering leaders has to possess strong abilities and the skills to communicate, manage and set direction. A successful engineer must be innovative, resourceful and entrepreneurial, as well as be able to work and integrate ideas across various disciplines. The IEL (Institute for Engineering Leadership) was set up specifically with this end in mind – to nurture the future leaders of the engineering profession, who will advance the field to the next level and to help create new products, services and enterprises.

2. Institute of Systems Science

The ISS (Institute of Systems Science) is known for its broad-based advanced professional continuing education in Information Technology specializing in Software Technology and Engineering Practice and provides industry with Strategic IT Management, e-Business and Knowledge Management expertise. ISS was established in 1981 with focus on the development of a strong and cohesive, industry-oriented educational programmes. She is ISO9001 certified for the provision of short courses, postgraduate programmes, consultancies and joint projects. In particular, her Graduate Diploma in Systems Analysis programme is designed for IT graduates to advance their career, and non-IT graduates in crafting a new career path in the IT industry. This twelve-month programme includes a 5 to 6 months internship with an IT corporation.

 

3. e-Government Leadership Center

The IDA (Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore) together with the ISS and the LKYSPP are the three partner institutions behind this Centre. The eGL shares the knowledge and lessons learnt in Singapore e-Government with government participants around the world to help in accelerating the achievement of the development goals of their respective countries.  The eGL also aims to provide a stimulating environment for participants to learn from one another as she continually builds on the intellectual capital on e-Government leadership. An example of a recent short course to government officials is on building intelligent cities.

 

4. Institute of Real Estate Studies

The IRES (Institute of Real Estate Studies) aims at becoming the global knowledge centre on Asian real estate, through the promotion of research excellence, international partnerships and industry collaborations. It explores pertinent real estate issues from a holistic perspective that is distinctively Asian, drawing upon the multi-disciplinary resources of NUS and accessing its worldwide linkages with prominent overseas institutions. It collaborates closely with industry practitioners to ultimately enhance industry best practices, capabilities and governance, contributing to sustainable community development, economic progress and social well-being.

 

5. LKY School of Public Policy 

The LKYSPP (Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy) was established in 2004 with the mission of educating and training the next generation of Asian policymakers and leaders. Its objectives are to raise the standards of governance throughout the region, improve the lives of the region’s people and, in so doing, contribute to the transformation of Asia. Although the School was formally launched in 2004, she has inherited a rich legacy left by her predecessor, the Public Policy Programme, set up in 1992 in partnership with the John F Kennedy School of Government (KSG) at Harvard University. To this day the School continues to maintain its strong partnership with KSG. At the same time, the School has developed new partnerships with Columbia University’s School of International & Public Affairs (SIPA), the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po). Besides one PhD and three Masters programmes, the School also offers a diverse range of high quality executive programmes.

 

6. NUS Business School – Executive Education

As a leading global university in Asia, National University of Singapore (NUS) offers a comprehensive portfolio of open-enrolment and company-specific programs to develop and equip leaders of today and tomorrow. NUS Business School is renowned across Asia and the globe for its academic rigor, enterprising research and teaching excellence. Since 1981, NUS Business School has offered a comprehensive portfolio of programs in Singapore to over 24,000 managers and senior executives from over 80 countries. This blend of cutting-edge learning in a truly international forum is what differentiates the NUS Executive Education experience.

 

7. Risk Management Institute

The RMI (Risk Management Institute) was established in 2006 as a research institute at NUS dedicated to the area of financial risk management. The establishment of RMI was supported by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). RMI aims to be a world-class center in risk management through research, education and training. Besides a Master degree programme in financial engineering, she organizes short courses in risk management such as credit risk management in corporate or SME lending, and Basel III and economic capital.

 

8. Strategic Technology Management Institute

The STMI (Strategic Technology Management Institute) within the School of Computing in NUS was jointly appointed by the Singapore WDA (Workforce Development Agency) and IDA in 2009 to provide training that is intended to best reflect the present and emerging needs of the infocomm industry. She combines the best in conceptual theory and knowledge with real world applications into executive programmes for professionals in infocomm industry under the national Infocomm Competency Framework (which is a framework that articulates competencies and skills required for different infocomm occupations and lists relevant training programmes available to build these skills).
